2014-02-08 | Source:LteWorld

Russia's Rostelecom has commissioned a 4G LTE network for the city of Sochi, in areas where the 2014 Winter Olympics are taking place and has already installed 40 LTE base stations.

The company says that this network provides peak data rates of up to 60 Mbit/s in downlink and up to 20 Mbit/s in uplink. The existing 4G network will cover a 40-square-kilometer area in mountainous areas and 50 sq km in the coastal area, so the LTE network will be available for all major Olympic venues. The city now has sim-card service available in major shopping centers.
